BONAGRASS Defeated but not disgraced in the Midlands Indoor League Final
The final showdown between BonaGrass Grove and Dundee Wanderers took place on Tuesday 2 December 2008 at Douglas Sports Centre. BonaGrass knowing that only a WIN would lift the league title.
BonaGrass were defeated 5-0, however took great pride in a spirited and committed performance, considering Dundee Wanderers had their whole National League squad on display barring Becky Ward compared to a BonaGrass squad who view the Midlands League as a development opportunity, with only 3 National League players included in their line up.
Unfortunately Mandy Robbie could not play due to illness so in stepped the Debs McLeod who was ‘OUTSTANDING’ and performed heroics in the BonaGrass goal – it was just like old times when she played in the goal unlike the present where she plays outfield and may we add – very well!
Tribute must also be paid to Susie Roberts who has had a superb Midlands Campaign.
A warm thanks go to Charlotte Jones who coached the team during the league and noted a vast improvement from our first week together to the final game.
Harry Byers, Midlands President commended both teams on a hard fought and committed final and also made reference to the fact the Bell Lawrie had beaten Dundee Wanderers 3-2 on Sunday so that put a smile on the BonaGrass faces! J
