Code of Conduct – Officials & Volunteers

 

Officials and volunteers are expected to adhere to the following rules at all times.  Failure by an official or volunteer to adhere to the following rules may result in action being taken against him or her by BGLHC in accordance with its disciplinary procedure.

 

Officials and Volunteers Should:

 

§         Always act in BGLHC’s best interest and promote its positive ethos and aspirations

§         Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every player, coach and club Member and treat everyone equally within the context of the sport

§         Consider the well-being and safety of players before the development of performance

§         Develop an appropriate working relationship with players and other coaches / officials / volunteers, based on mutual trust and respect

§         Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part

§         Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. Fair Play)

§         Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance

§         Follow all guidelines laid down by the Scottish Hockey Union and BGLHC

§         Encourage players to value their performances and not just results

§         Encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour

§         Be aware of how to deal with and report the disclosure or suspicion of abuse

§         Immediately report to BGLHC incidents of inappropriate language, behaviour or abuse by any player, coach or club member

 

 

Officials and Volunteers Should Not:

 

  • Act or fail to act in such a way as to bring BGLHC into disrepute
  • Exert undue influence over players to obtain personal benefit or reward
  • Condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibited substances
